Looking out of my window at all the various colours of green that come at this time of year, as well as the abundance of colour in the garden, I cannot but think about God’s wonderful creative mind. As Christians, we believe we are made in the image of God… that means that we can be creative like him. Whether in the garden, on a canvas, through a lens, on paper or using modern technology we have the possibility of being creative and bringing colour to peoples lives. I have been challenged myself in the past few days to think about how creative I am by being asked if I could bring a 10 minute “Generation Game” skill to an Adcote School event.
But it goes one step further. When an artist finishes his best painting, he sits back, observes and enjoys the moment. When a writer or sculptor finishes a project, they enjoy a glowing moment of accomplishment. When you see the results of two years’ hard work in a garden, you appreciate them. The Bible says that after he had finished creating the world, “God looked at what he had done. All of it was very good!” (Genesis 1:31). God looks at his creation of humanity, as well as the rest of creation, and says ‘it is very good.’ We are an integral part of God’s creation and, most importantly, we are pleasing to him.
How amazing! Yet we are not just to look at it but to relate to it. That means that he also hopes to enjoy our company. Another challenge…
So this summer, as most of us have some time to relax and be, let’s try and walk in the knowledge that we are pleasing to God and ask him to enhance our own creativity by bringing colour to people’s lives.
Creator of all, thank You for summer!Thank You for the warmth of the sunand the increased daylight.Thank You for the beauty I see all around meand for the opportunity to be outside and enjoy Your creation.May I understand that I am pleasing to you.As I enjoy your creation, help me be creative for you.In Jesus’ name. Amen.
With many blessings,
